2026 Fire Readiness

Although it is impossible to be fully ready in the event of a fire, the Fire Department has been working very hard at continuing our ability to suppress and help fight fire should we be faced with it.

The fire trucks located at Kilroy Bay and Pine Cove are filled with water and additional water tanks are filled at strategic locations. The pumps and trucks are regularly run to check their operation and to provide training to anyone wanting to learn to operate them. Fire hose is placed at each pump.

In an effort to provide additional protection above the beach to the secondary lots, additional hose has been laid and tested from the pump near Kilroy Creek. There is also pipe and hose along the Kilroy Road from the meadow to the beach and an additional pump and hose that the Hyers have made available at the west end of Kilroy Bay. This is located on the secondary lot above the Hyer cabin.

A stand pipe has been added in the meadow so that trucks can be filled quickly and it also provides water to the two water curtains that are in place in the meadow. The water curtains have been tested but will be used only in the event of fire. This stand pipe is fed with lake water supplied by the pump located where the Kilroy Road meets the beach. It pumps the water thru the pipes placed in the ravene beside the road.

Just recently the hose connecting the pipes to the pump was upgraded so it is no longer laying above ground. Having this line buried allows us to have the pump readily available for providing water without having the hose lay across the road. This would not have been possible without the help of Jim Miller and the many residents who were there to help design and install the pipe.

The fire department is always working on growing and improving our ability to suppress fire and protect our cabins in the event we are faced with fire but we encourage each person to extend this responsibility to your residence.

1. Adhere to all burn restrictions and burn bans

2. Have a personal fire protection plan for you and your family

3. Be involved in the fire department

4. Do not drive vehicles off the road

5. Remove all burnable debris from around your residence

6. Leave your pump turned on and have a hose connected and visible

7. Have a bucket and shovel outside and visible
